The St. Francis Temple, originally called Johnson Memorial A.M.E Church was founded in 1906. The very first Riets and grass structure erected by Rev Khaile J.J was dedicated on 16th January 1916, under the Presiding Eldership of Rev S.J. Mabote.

The Rev M.N. Tilo, the then Pastor erected the first brick structure, which was dedicated by Bishop R.R. Wright on 24th July 1938

A number of Pastors were assigned to the then Johnson Memorial and the current St. Francis Historical records can not trace the appointments from 1906, but the Pastors assigned by the Annual Conference order from 1916 to date are:

• The Rev M.N. Tilo who was a Pastor and PE, served in the 1938 era
• The Rev Joel Lebelo Makhene, Pastor and PE, served in the 1940
• The Rev J.M. Mokone, Pastor and PE, dates not confirmed, the son to the founder Rev M.M. Mokone
• The Rev Clement Dichachane Nthoba, Pastor and PE, who served from 1959 – 1967, bought the current site and erected both the church and the Parsonage
• The Rev Dr. Moses Dakie Phetlhu, Pastor and PE who served from 1968 to 1994, and is the longest serving Pastor os St. Francis. Rev Dr. Phetlhu purchased the site adjacent to the church and erected the current Dr MD. Phetlhu Multipurpose center. His service ploughed the seed of 20 Clergy men into the ministry of African Methodism.
• Rev Khedi Simon Malinga, Pastor and PE served from 1995 – 2000
• Rev Themba Abram M.M. Mbambo Pastor and PE, who served from 2001 – 2009 and completed to dedication the project started by Dr Phetlhu
• Rev Ramasedi Jackson Randy Shuping appointed from 2009 to date
